Participatory research asks who holds knowledge and who is accountable for it. Common Inquiry answers the same questions about itself here.

What the journal stands for

Guides to participatory action research, citizen science, community data and research ethics draw on peer-reviewed work, legislation and guidance from public agencies, funders, universities and bodies such as UNESCO and the WHO, cited in full at the end of each article. Common Inquiry invents no case studies, quotations or people. It does not grant ethics approval, run or fund projects, give legal, tax or benefits advice, or sell anything; for your own project, your ethics committee, institution or funder remains the right place to ask.

Separate from People's Knowledge

Common Inquiry is independent and unofficial. It has no connection with the People's Knowledge network that used peoplesknowledge.org until 2026, with its founders and members, or with its partner institutions, and it does not speak for them.
